The passing of Ralph Palmerton

Ralph Palmerton passed away this morning.

Many of you may not know that name but for some of us, he was a larger than life legend in Royal Rangers.

Ralph was a Royal Ranger leader for years in the Pen Florida District. He was involved literally from the beginning, starting Royal Rangers in Lakeland as Outpost #5 and Eagle Lake as Outpost #6 in 1963!

Ralph had worked at every single level of Royal Rangers, from the local outpost up to the national level as a territorial FCF representative. In fact he was the first territorial FCF representative ever for the Southeast Region.

Ralph was involved with both national training as a Camp Commander, Senior Guide and Instructor as well as a fixture for years in Junior Training as well.

Ralph was also instrumental in the development of Camp Wilderness, even being the contractor on the Lodge.

Ralph could be tough as nails and hold you to the highest standard but also could whisper a kind word at just the right moment.

He has inspired men and boys over a 60+ year career in Royal Rangers to walk closer with the Lord and is to be held up as an example for all of us.

Even as he retired to the mountains of Tennessee in his 70's he never lost his heart for Royal Rangers, regularly contributing training funds to the Pen Florida District and serving as a district advisor to the Tennessee District.

It is no understatement to say that we walk in the foot prints of Ralph Palmerton and his legacy lives on in the Men, Boys, and Camp he pioneered.

Truly a life with purpose and we celebrate him today.
